Connecting to a Mysql Database in Dreamweaver CS4?

I have created a sports website using dreamweaver cs4 and as part of the website requirements it must connect to a mysql database. Now I've created the website on my university computers and I can connect the website to the university server, no problem there. I've also created a simple mysql database containing player names, goals scored, appearances etc, quite simple. I have a players page within the website with the php extension 'players.php'. But i'm having difficulty connecting the database to the website. Is there something I'm missing? Should I have some php code within my php file players.php telling DW to connect to the database? I keep getting ''an unidentified error has occurred''. Any help would be great, thanks
